Lazy days in North Carolina & Virginia

Author: B*ROCK

We made it back from Charleston late and woke up the next morning at Kayce's dad's house. We decided to make use of our time close to a beach and get some more sand time. While Kayce laid out in the sun on the beach I got in touch with my inner kid and found a stick to poke the dead jelly fish on the beach and inspect them.

We got back and spent time with the family. Snack time! Kayce's dad has a evening routine of gathering in the living room to watch the news while eating some snacks. One of the evenings he had prepared shrimp for a shrimp cocktail along with some cheese, fresh cherries, and crackers with hummus.

Master chef and all around good guy, Paul Dewey. This man can cook!

The next day we decided to take a walk with her dad down into the town of Southport and check out the little tourist shops. Kayce and I found a few post cards for family at one of the shops. We then headed to the pier and watched people go crazy throwing bread at the seagulls. That was an awesome people watching experience! Next we headed to a soft serve ice cream place to cool down before heading back to the house for our last evening.

This lady had a whole bag of bread for the birds and she was bound and determined to have one take a slice right from her hand... Here you can see one coming in hot!
This place had some awesome soft serve ice cream. It took for ever to get though due to an order of 14 hot dogs in front of us and only one girl working.
Sprinkles.

After saying our good byes we departed from Southport, NC. It was an absolute great experience spending time with Kayce's family. Her dad is an amazing cook and I swear it was his cooking that saved my gut from being overrun with greasy food. Having a genuine home cooked meal was the best.
Thanks Paul and Janet for the great weekend, food and hospitality!

We left close to noon and headed north towards Richmond, VA. Kayce and I have a mutual friend, Colleen from Sundance who works in Richmond. Kayce's first college room mate from college, Ashlee also resides there. We met up with Kayce's friend Ashlee at her amazing top floor apartment and then jammed down to a coffee shop to meet up with Colleen.

After a coffee and a grilled cheese we learned all about both of our friends weddings that are happening this year. We said our goodbyes to Colleen. Ashlee, Kayce and myself headed to northern Virginia to grab some dinner and stay with Ashlee's fiancee Brad. Brad took us too a little Afghan place that had amazing food. You'd never think so though judging by its outside look and location. Smack dab in the middle of a strip mall with a pawn shop on one side and a dance studio on the other.

If you're ever in Dumfries, VA this place is great!
When we got back to Brad's place we grabbed a bottle of wine and headed to his back deck. Lots of good conversation ensued and I observed how easily it was for Kayce and Ashlee to jump right back into conversation like they had been around each other everyday. It had been about 10 years since the two had met last.

The next morning we woke up and headed out for some breakfast. Next we grabbed some groceries for the road and then headed to a place Ashlee had been raving about. A soft serve ice cream place called Jo Jo's. Nothing like good ice cream on a hot day.

I went with the worm sundae.
Orange twist!

When we got back to Brad's house we rounded up our stuff and hit the road for our next stop. Washington D.C. Kayce has a handful of friends in D.C. and we had decided to catch a pint and some food with two of her old room mates from Charleston.

Mexican food sounded good so we all met up at Chevy's for happy hour. A few margaritas and appetizers later I had heard many wild and fun adventures the three had shared in Charleston. We grabbed a picture with the crew and headed to stay the night with our friend Sarah Roffman where Kayce and Sarah decided to make some crafts.
